Entrepreneur Lani Rosales taught us abut counter culture at our February General Meeting in a very unique way.
She herself was a prime example of counter culture as she cursed during her presentation and ran robotically to deliver the microphone during Q&A. In addition, she used three celebrities to illustrate counter culture- Elon Musk, Mark Cuban and Kim Kardashian.
Elon Musk is literally out-of-this-world counter culture. This billionaire is working towards having life be multiplanetary by having a human community on Mars. This entrepreneur’s goal is to help the world by reducing global warming and his entrepreneurial ventures began when he was 12 years old and he sold a video game he created.
Mark Cuban is an example of being human. Despite his blunt personality on Shark Tank, he reveals more human traits than most celebrities. Rosales gave the example of Cuban historically saving Dallas parades. He never did it for the press. He did it for his community.
Finally, Kim Kardashian has welcomed the paparazzi and used it to her advantage instead of trying to hide. Her trick is, the paparazzi will only see her when and how she wants to be seen. Kardashian mindfully only leaves her home while wearing a bikini when the sun is at the perfect spot that it will not reveal her cellulite. She avoids negative press by understanding the media and working with it instead of around it.
Counter culture was encouraged by Rosales. She said it can make people see you as more relatable and trustworthy. Her suggestion is to be quirky and out-of-the-box and slip in a cuss word ever now and then.
