Meet the New Women of YWA: June 2019 Cohort

September 30, 2019Alyssa Rolfe

You’ve no doubt seen many new faces at recent YWA gatherings. This June, we welcomed 62 fabulous new women to our organization! So far, our new members have participated in orientation, gotten acquainted over a delicious brunch, attended several of the monthly Speaker Series sessions and recent Party of 8 events, networked at the YWA & YMBL happy hour, and volunteered together around Austin.

To get to know these women a little better, the new members completed a fun survey* to share their unique qualities and diverse backgrounds.

A few facts:

Our new members are from everywhere!

88% grew up outside of Austin hailing from at least 14 different states and Puerto Rico as well! And these ladies are equally distributed around Austin and the surrounding areas, so you are guaranteed to have a new YWA member on your side of town. Why not meet up at your neighborhood coffee shop to get to know each other?

They are excited and engaged to be part of YWA!

The top reasons cited for joining YWA are 1) meeting new people and making new friends 2) professional and personal development and 3) networking events and opportunities. And the women included comments such as “I’m excited to connect with kind, motivated, and caring women and support other women and their endeavors,” and “I’m excited to meet and network with other women in Austin, all while getting the chance to volunteer and have some fun too!” The positive energy is contagious!

Our new members work hard…

The new women of YWA work inside and outside of the home, many rocking careers in sales, marketing, HR, and finance and in fields such as tech, healthcare, the arts, and education. They work in every size organization from mega-huge to startups of one, in the office and out of their homes. Many are students as well and together they make a diverse and interesting group of hard-working women.

…And they love to have fun too!

Traveling, fostering animals, reading, working out, restaurant-hopping, sports, baking, swimming, axe throwing (you read that right…axe throwing!), the new women of YWA have a variety of interests and participate in a ton of fun activities in their spare time. And these ladies love their pets! 73% report having a four-legged friend. Dogs, cats, and even a sweet little bunny named Basil are all loved by our new members.

We are thrilled about these terrific new members and cannot wait to watch them grow together in YWA. Interested in becoming a member or sharing the experience with a phenomenal woman in your network? Join today to take advantage of a YWA membership and all of the perks it entails!

*Statistics are based only upon the completed survey entries and do not represent all 62 new members
