There’s no denying it – dating apps have revolutionized the dating world. Now there are more ways than ever to meet your potential match. We wanted to get the real low down on what it’s like to swipe across someone’s face and multiple YWA ladies were gracious enough to share their experiences with us.
Of the five ladies we interviewed, two of them had met their partners through technology (Bumble and Ok Cupid). When asked about their experience using dating apps, their responses ranged from, “If I could write a short story about my experience with the dating app, it would be titled “Fifteenth Time is the Charm” to “I’ve met my last 3 boyfriends on dating apps and have only been on one horrible first date.” One consistent theme among all the interviewees is that, with so many choices, you “have to kiss even more frogs.”
Almost all of our interviewees said that you have to meet your potential match face to face and that it is important to not keep the conversation on the app going for too long. Most interviewees went on a date within 1-2 weeks of first swipe. Of course actually going on the date is the scary part and can lead to some not-so-great experiences, such as a man falling asleep at the table because he was wine-drunk at 12pm on a Monday. And he didn’t pay the bill.
Many women expressed that apps such as Bumble are “turning the tables on traditional dating,” while others long for a more traditional approach and think it’s the man’s job to make the first move.
From the terribly shy to the totally overworked, all of the women agreed that dating apps have made dating more accessible and convenient. While there is no doubt that dating apps offer you the potential to meet someone you would have never met in real life, it’s important to give people a chance and to not dismiss them so quickly. Obviously, if your date is drunk and asleep at noon, its probably isn’t going to work out.
