Let me tell you about a young woman who is crushing it at life. Her name is Lisa Hsi and she is a junior at Rhodes College where she is double majoring in psychology and religious studies. She went to high school in Austin but wanted to spread her wings and attend an out of state college. There was just one problem: the cost of out of state tuition (many of us know this pain!). Lisa’s high school counselor encouraged her to apply to the Young Women’s Alliance Scholarship in order to get the help she needed. Sure enough, Lisa was a perfect candidate to receive the YWA scholarship.
When Lisa arrived to college, she was convinced that becoming a pharmacist was her calling. However, as she started the Bonner Program at Rhodes, a program for students who have a passion for service and social justice, Lisa started to realize that maybe pharmacy school wasn’t actually the path she was meant to take in life.
Thanks in large part to the YWA Scholarship, Lisa decided to spread her wings even more and study abroad in Europe. The program she enrolled in focused on European History and Art History. During her time in Europe, she has traveled to England, Ireland, France, Germany and Italy (just to name a few).
When asked about how the YWA Scholarship impacted her life, Lisa mentioned two things that we all strive for: it helped her recognize her passion and it brought her numerous enriching experiences. Not only does every young woman deserve to study abroad but they also deserve to find their passion. Donating to the YWA Scholarship will help many other young women find their passion which is what all of us women deserve.
