As Austin is “The Live Music Capital of the World” we thought it relevant to present some of our favorite live music acts around town.
First up: Motown Monday
Every single Monday night, The Matchmaker Band and The Nightowls play live music from 9pm to midnight. Performing covers of popular Motown hits and original Motown/Pop jams respectively, these bands have the crowd on their feet the entire night. Have you ever been somewhere and thought “This is my happy place”? Well, Motown Monday is seriously a happy place.
My favorite of the two acts is The Matchmaker Band. One of my preferences when going to see live music is knowing the words to the songs (because aren’t concerts so much more fun when you can belt all the words right along with the band?). My Girl, I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Aint No Mountain High Enough. P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) – need I say more? These guys have spunk and put on an awesome show.
As if you didn’t need any additional reasons to check out Motown Mondays: at 8pm, before the music starts, Go Dance teaches free introductory Blues Dance class. So if you’re like me and tend to move around awkwardly on the dance floor, you can attend this beforehand to be a little less awkward.
Speaking of free, there’s no cover! So go out on a weeknight (because, why not?) and move around on the dance floor for a few hours while singing along to some of the greatest songs ever written.
