The Young Women’s Alliance is built on four pillars: Educate, Lead, Network and Serve. At the March General Meeting, we will target three of the four pillars by watching the documentary 10-Won, hearing from several of the documentary’s producers and having the opportunity to network with the speakers and other YWA attendees.
The documentary film 10-Won is about the 2014 change to Austin’s city government and election structure. If you’re eager to see exactly what this film is about, you can preview it here: https://vimeo.com/121725312.
“We decided to view this during a GM because one, it’s fun to mix up the format and two, the idea is to educate our members about local government since we’re all leaders in the community,” said the Vice President of Programs, Emily Hudson.
We’ll hear from four different people after screening the film, Deep Nasta, the Producer, David Ruiz, the Editor, Steve Conn, the Videographer and Editor and Ora Houston, an Austin City Council Member.
“I’m hoping that our members enjoy the film at face value but also walk away more knowledgeable and curious about local government,” Hudson said. “As a political science major and policy nerd, this is right in my wheelhouse and will hopefully encourage others to engage more.”
